Hey so

I've been screwing around with the network connecting the communications devices a little. I know there's no Spotify here, no internet, not a lot of music, which sucks. My MP3 player came here with me, so I figured maybe some people might like to have at least a few options. It might not necessarily be to everyone's taste, but it's better than nothing (probably).

I've uploaded the contents to the database, you should be able to access it or send/receive songs at any time.

Turns out they already had some music on there too, so you can poke around theirs and see if you find something you like more. I haven't gotten to go through it all, but at least some of it looks like 21st century Earth stuff.

Sidenote: you're welcome to criticize the contents of my MP3 player, just know that I've never felt shame in my life & I can and will sing all of these karaoke style to your face. IDK if you really want to live through that experience.

[ this... is surprisingly comforting? a little piece of home. ]

You have good taste. I wouldn't have minded some more jazz, though.

It's strange to listen to music from the future. I truly don't understand this place.

I wouldn't say either of those things is true. In the end, it's just a matter of personal preference.

Anyway, it was April of 2001.

[Someone's being nosy.

But she never thought about Bruno listening to music...
]

Jazz, Bucciarati? I never would have guessed.

[Trish is from the same time period as Bruno, so this has a similar effect...some of this is oldies her mother listened to, but the rest?

She can dig it. Woeful that not a lot of her favorites made it on there, but this is far more than she ever expected. Don't look a gift Ian in the mouth!!! She'll definitely have to scrounge the civilian's stores later...singing from memory is hard.

Also yeah, that the heck. Music from the future slaps, actually.
]

I was not expecting Alanis Morrisette of all things. With that in mind, if anyone criticizes your taste they would be inherently wrong. :/

Thank you for having a genuinely good idea though. I didn't consider we could treat the network like Napster.

You know, I think a karaoke night for the theater would be a fun. But I'm probably biased.

[Very.]

You're not a little distressed by how many of these songs seem to be a constant across multiple versions of Earth?

Oh. I hadn't thought about doing this.

I have a lot of music and some of it is the same, but it's not very well organized.

I'm a pilot, and not of a civilian vessel like the Adamant. More like ... fighter planes, I suppose, would be the equivalent for your era. I'm absolutely useless with anything related to engineering.

I'd be interested to see what you'd think. These have century and country of origin but many of them are guesswork. It's just a sampling of the database on the Pufferfish, which was copied from an archive humans made close to the end.

The Krakau are very sound-oriented. They claim our music is the closest thing we had to a universal language. Is this true?

I have the titles, at least. Krakau working with humans take human names from our music - they review the archive and choose the title of the song they find most representative. It's easier for us to remember and say those.

That's very beautifully put.

[and depressing. Most of the humans Mops knows aren't really interested in the surviving, reconstructed scraps of culture they still have. The music they listen to is made by aliens, when Ian's made a picture of music as backing a rich emotional landscape. ...quick mops, think of something more to say!]

What about the ukelele? What's that mean?

That'd be funny, and a hit amongst the kids.

Though if I'm making paper planes well into my late 30s here ... that'd be grim.

Anything else come with you that's fun?

No, it's all very interesting. And it's unfortunate that you're not without your equipment.

Are you familiar with robots?

wow ignore my typo in that tag

Really now. What was your job, before you got here? You're not just some hobbyist off the block, it seems.
