Everyone's already got their hands full so I'll cut to the chase:

There's room at the table for us at the upcoming meeting between Capt. Childe and the Thessyx representatives. Don't know how many seats or what's going to be discussed, but if you want to be the one representing us, or otherwise got any strong feelings on the matter

Now's the time to speak up.

I have to say that if it's expected that this will be very important and there isn't another way, I could lend my monocle to the representative to record and play back the discussion later.

[If people don't trust Captain Childe or the hatchling representative, having a record after the meeting will be something.]

A visor that goes over one eye. It records visual and audio data and can project video. It does other things too - mine houses my personal AI, Doc.

[ On his end-- he's not her crew. He knows the way this all works, but he can be respectful of her rank without typing it out each time.

Would you believe he never really fit in in the army? ]

Folks have been exploring the ship, finding needed supplies left behind from the crash.

The power's still partially on, but no one's had much luck interfacing their devices with the computer yet.

[To Mops the idea of a human in charge - in the corps she's from, permanent human rank is capped at lieutenant - is strange and exciting, so she uses "Captain" literally every time.]

Doc's skills in hacking rely a lot on the base level similarities between him and any other computers he contacts, so he's been having to learn human computers from the shallows down. I'm not sure I could find anything new, but I suppose I should check myself when I have the chance.

It's only rude if you start arguing with me on it. Yes, I'm human. A different kind than the others here, but human. My tech isn't. Humans never got the chance to develop sophisticated AI, in my timeline.

I'm from Earth circa 2018. Some of the AI I've seen back home is pretty sophisticated, but I don't have much to compare to.

For me, human civilization ended in 2105. We probably had some form of AI, I know there were various advances in the field, but nothing functioning that survived the fifty years until the Krakau came. Doc is a Nusuran-Krakau creation.

What's Earth like in 2018?

Temperatures getting hotter, sea levels rising. Forever wars. Every bit of information and news fast traveling through the internet.

Who are the Krakau?

That's about what I'd expect for that part of the century. The histories of the era are always crowded, when people remembered to back up the data on some less transient medium than was really popular at the time.

They're the primary movers of the Krakau Alliance, a multispecies entity. As a people the Krakau are the most adaptable and visionary species, if I can be completely reductive. They look something like Earth squid.
