[The young man is looking... understandably nervous as he faces the camera. He makes an effort to smooth his hair down and then flashes a winning (?!) smile. Is that a piece of broccoli in his teeth? Crap! He scrubs the cuff of his shirt against it and then coughs to cover the embarrassment, before diving into his totally-not-rehearsed-like-sixty-times speech.]

So.

Uh.

Hello. Hi. I-is this thing on? Joking, I'm kidding, I know it's on. Annnnd that's the punchline ruined, great, I'm amazing at this.

D-disastrous introductions aside, I'm Ashley. You may remember me from such greatest hits as 'that guy who tripped into the Chrysalis and brought us all here somehow' and, uh, 'that nervous dude who handed me a towel in the shower once' and you would be right, uh, that is, correct on both counts. I'm really sorry, by the way. For the... you know, the... thing. The first thing. Not the towels. Towels are great. I love towels.

Captain Childe asked me like a month ago to do some work with, uh, getting everyone in and settled and doing what we can to make you guys comfortable as much as we can actually help with. We know that you guys don't want to be here any more than we do. Ethyraia! Not exactly a fun time at Grandma's, right? Right.

Anyway, if you have any questions, or... you know, anything, or you just want to chat, come say hi. Introduce yourself? I know I'm kind of setting myself up to be the basecamp whipping boy over here but please don't yell at me I don't do well with that kind of attention.

Or you could just... I don't know, tell me something about yourself? We're still figuring each other out, right? Iiiiiiiiiii am a Scorpio, and I'm afraid of cats. N-not big cats. Lions are fine? I mean... like, normal housecats. So there you go, that's the fun fact of the week.

Makes sense.

What did you think about that? The whole 'visit from the Thessyx' thing.

[He's definitely getting that impression.

He nods at that answer, thinking it over a moment as he decides how to respond.]

That's a very warranted way to feel. Unless they were completely unaware of the situation you've been in, it seems they're motivated more by curiosity than by empathy, which is understandably disappointing.

They might, but that would require that they care to listen.

[Which who knows, they might, but he gets the impression they really don't have any interest in the crew at all.

As for the next comments, that's... Very nice, actually, and a bit surprising, especially after the locals in the last place he was loved to yell at him for basically anything he said on the network.]

That's thoughtful of you, but if you'd like to read it, feel free to do so. But yes, basically; not for anything personal or that might be a security issue, but it's a lot easier for all of us if we're on the same page with what we do and don't know about the common hazards, environment, that sort of thing.

[This is beyond a surprise and just into being a bit of a shock--in a good way--now, because he'd gotten so incredibly used to people being terrible to him in the last world he was in. It shows on his face just briefly, but is soon replaced with a smile that's a bit warmer than his usual polite one.]

I would really appreciate that; thank you, Ashley.

There are a few of us who have been really interested in working on maps, so they might be willing to helping out. And not just that, but I think a lot of us are interested in contributing whatever we can, we just don't know what's been done or where we're needed other than in everyday work around basecamp.
