video @nina
[ You can make VIDEOS ON THIS THING.
Now that Nina knows this, no one is safe. Well, okay, not true, because she's still got to get the hang of it. You, the viewer, are once again treated to a vision of... the Aid Station wall.
Nina: "Where's the camera again?"
John, her long-suffering patient who isn't suffering as much as he is laughing at her: "On the corner, there."
Nina: "But that means I have to hold my wrist like--" Abruptly, the picture changes and now Nina's squarely in view, "--oh yes, you're right. That's a better idea."
John: "...so are you gonna say something or?"
Nina: "Oh Saints, is it recording already? Blast--"
Bright smile is go! ]
Hello, everyone! If we haven't met yet, I'm Nina Zenik.
There are so many of us here from so many different places. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly two months, and now more of us are coming. I’m not used to making announcements like this [ some noise from beside her, Nina looks toward John and corrects: ] -- or, posts? Apparently they’re called posts. -- but even some the Adament crew I’ve spoken to are interested in my questions, so they’ve assured me they don’t mind if I - post - with this.
So tell us - what’s it like where you’re from? What are the legends that are most popular? What are the courtship practices? [ She’s absolutely not crafting this whole post because she’s searching for ideas on this, nope. ] Are you one of those of us have been fighting a war -- excuse the question if it’s rude, there just do seem to be a lot of us. I’d ask you to talk about your favorite foods instead, but that might be more depressing than helpful. Oh - here’s one: If you’re from an Earth, how do you know it’s a different Earth than all the other Earths? And if not, does your planet have a name or is mine the only one that doesn't?

I can come by the Aid Station. I'm recovered enough to do a few more rounds of healing before lunch.
text --> action
[ And sure enough, there they are. Nina is sitting on John's, an Adament crew member in his late 40s, bed as they peruse the stories together. John's broken arm and leg are a good deal better than they were - more than halfway healed due to Nina's work earlier. And despite the lack of pain medication, he is in no pain. ]
action
He finds Nina with a patient, both glued to her device with big grins. ]
Fancy seeing you here.

[ John, proving that he has been doing more than his share of network surfing, corrects: A voice like a thunderstorm seducing you.
Nina adjusts with a gracious slant of her head. ] A seductive thunderstorm.
[ And you came to the Aid Station for this? ]
no subject
[ He crosses his arms, leaning against the support beam, winking seductively. This act has gotten him information, free drinks, and other favors countless times from tiny sand taverns to noble's private soirees. ]
I was going to walk you back to camp, but I fear this strapping and helpful man has beaten me to your schedule. Should I return later?
[ He's learned how to use the communication device, but it doesn't keep him distracted the way talking to a real person does, and Nina is easy to talk to. ]

Oh, I can't allow a monopoly on my time. [ She turns to John and smiles at him: ] At least, not by you. [ He grumbles back good-naturedly: I know who you will let monopolize you, though. ] Quite possibly! [ she responds, and standing, warns him to continue to rest and she'll be able to finish healing him tomorrow. Then she turns to Balthier. ]
Shall we?
no subject
Balthier performs a flourishing bow usually reserved for over the top costume parties and offers his arm. ]
M'lady.
no subject
It's not every day someone accuses me of being a lady. [ She smiles at him. It's fun to play this kind of game, when it's for fun and not for more nefarious purposes. ] I could get used to it, as long as it isn't catchy.
no subject
I don't think I knew that you were a healer.
no subject
Oh, I can heal - but I wouldn't call myself a Healer. My training was in a decidedly different direction. You've been using you powers to heal too?
no subject
[ That and working in engineering is too painful. He feels exposed without Fran or the Strahl. ]
So, courtship rituals. You looking to run off with a new thessyx husband?
no subject
Saints, no! After hearing that certain parts of the human anatomy had to be explained to them, I doubt I'd get much joy of that, no matter how many hands they have.
no subject
[ It's nice to banter as friends. A month ago he wouldn't have predicted finding this so quickly, and he's grateful for it. ]
So if not a Thessyx, new beau in the Hatchlings? Your patient, John? Wistful thinking to keep the cold nights at bay?
no subject
She leans toward him conspiratorially. ] As a matter of fact, it was a bit more than just looking for some insights into the cultures of those present here. I'm looking for ammunition.
no subject
Have you chosen a target already?
[ That said, Nina's avoidance of the topic rather than flirting suggests to him that she has a sweetheart. He wonders if that person is here or was left at home. ]
no subject
She laughs a little instead, smiling and shaking her head. ]
Do you really think I need a co-conspirator in such a campaign? I'm shocked, shocked that you would underestimate me this way.
[ She can't help but tease, but she's not putting him off because she doesn't intend to tell him, it's just too good an opportunity to pass up. ]
no subject
[ The joke comes out light but stings. ]
Who are your primary targets? Or still gathering intel?
no subject
As it turns out, I'm not quite here on my own. [ Her smile doesn't fade, although it does grow smaller, revealing an incredulous soft happiness. ] Matthias Helvar is here too. You may have met him, ridiculously tall, isenulf with one eye at his side, running around and herding those mole creatures?
no subject
He feels like a boy whining about the unfairness of life. Hadn't he moved away at 16, not knowing a soul, and met the most important people in his life?
It was so much work though. He doesn't want to think about having to do that again. Especially with people who already have their communities. ]
Feel like I'd remember that one. I'll have to keep an eye out, give him a good pirate scare about treating my girl right or else, swords and villainy, et cetera.
no subject
Oh, Saints, don't do that. He'd enjoy it too much. He's been positively despondent over not being able to "gain permission." [ An elaborate eye roll. ] We're skipping too many proper Fjerdan steps.
[ And his smile does not meet his eyes. Nina doesn't think that Balthier's flirting had been any more than that; this isn't disappointment. It's something else. She doesn't want to presume about what it is, but she could hazard a very steady guess. It's not easy to be alone. ]
no subject
[ He suspects that shocking such a rigid fellow is half the fun. And that there's some security in someone so predictable. Trustworthy. ]
sorry - I thought I'd be able to keep up on vacation, but that didn't work. Lmk if you want to drop.
She smiles, biting her lip in the same moment as she ducks her head. ]
Figuring it out, I suppose. [ She lifts her head to look at him. ] But do you really want to hear the story? I don't want to become one of those women who prattles on about their love life.
no worries! I'm good with either. I enjoy their bonding, or we can jump to something for the event.
[ It's said jokingly, but it's sincere as well. Nina is socially deft, has clearly dealt with difficult situations, and can obviously hold her own in a mission. Balthier is genuinely happy that she has something positive in her life, and that that person is here. ]
Though I do request you make it entertaining. I want to an elite private school, and then apprenticed with actual pirates. I'm a certified storytelling snob.
Let's keep going, then! I'll try to hit up the plotting post for the event tonight. ^^
[ This is a lie. But whether or not Balthier is telling her the truth - and she believes that he is - he's returning a bit of his past for her own, and she can deal with that very well... the making of an ally... a friend. She glances at him sideways. ]
I'm not quite sure how to begin. I suppose -- I should tell you Matthias is a Fjerdan, from one of the countries at war with my own. And he is a drüskelle, a member of a "holy order" devoted to hunting down and killing Grisha.
[ Which is what she is, as he may have cause to recall. ]
It's not quite fair to say we met when he captured me, because I was doing quite well against the other four drüskelle until he threw a bola around me through a window from a building across the street. His heartbeat was so steady, I had no reason to think there was another one there. So I suppose really we met when he was clapping me in irons in the belly of a Fjerdan ship. It was far less romantic than it sounds.
Cool :)
I supposed I should be a little sympathetic. I was in love with the rightful heir to the country my father had helped bring to its knees and wanted me to help subjugate. Though I suppose I was a deserter of at least five years when I met her. Still, what is it with us free spirits and difficult relationship dynamics?
