Greetings,

You might remember that there was a meeting with the thessyx a few days back. Captain Childe wanted to speak to their representatives, and you don't need me to tell you how important actually making friends with the original inhabitants of this place are, I'm sure.

I won't bore you with the little details - Balthier will just have to tell you himself whether or not he arm wrestled one of the thessyx - but let me tell you about the main points as I heard them from where I was.

[From where he was sitting at the actual table. Obviously implying he snuck in and therefore was not in this conversation is much more fun and importance-free.]

We got answers to some questions - the thessyx aren't shy about any of this, but if you're the shy sort, don't worry, I've got you.

First, as we all know, the shell was full of gifts for the "Children of the Leviathan". That seems to be us.

We, the Children of Leviathan, are the reason they finally came here. Their monarch sensed the psychic impression of the Children of the Leviathan hatching, and since the Children of the Leviathan are the chosen ones of the dragon, and they worship that dragon, they wanted to see us, the Children of the Leviathan, firsthand.

[The dramatic way he's saying Children of the Leviathan is not being expressed in voice-to-text, but it's fine. Repetition will have to do the work.]

Captain Childe wants to negotiate an alliance with the thessyx, and she's willing to let them have access to the basecamp to get it, with some restrictions. For example, no weapons.
But, it seems a lot like the thessyx's main interest with the basecamp isn't the crew, it's us. It'll be worth keeping that in mind in future, but right now, it means Her Captainship is offering to show the thessyx the set-up here, and it might mean they'll help us in return.

Balthier - human, voice like a thunderstorm seducing you, maybe you know him - mostly spoke for the hatchlings during the meeting. Don't worry, he was the perfect gentleman - and mostly steered the conversation back to Captain Childe to do the talking.
I think even without standing on a table and making an inspiring speech, sword held high in the air as a non-existence breeze ripples his shirt-sleeves as I know in my heart he's capable of, Balthier got us some goodwill with the woman in charge around here.

There wasn't exactly time for a Q&A back there, but if the thessyx told you something that's worth sharing, let us all know. If we can gather everything we have about them in one place, it'll help. I've got a few extras of my own as well.

[He has already hit Post before realising that Balthier's voice very definitely reminds him of a close friend...and if he ever told Fenris his voice sounded like a seductive thunderstorm, the broody elf would murder him.]

So that makes us, what? Demi-gods to them?

As an aside - how often do you experience love affairs with natural disasters? Or is this a thunderstorm exclusive fetish?

A pirate never shares his secrets, nor misses an opportunity for musical excellence.

He does occasionally break solemn pacts for dramatic effect. 'Twas too good a story not to share.

[ blast. Balthier keeps forgetting that these comms are not default private. He doesn't think Childe will be particularly upset to see him defending her view, however. He rather agrees with her. ]

I'm keeping an eye, but appreciated.

[ Back to public ]

Mmm perhaps, but there is little that bests a good velvet. I had a dress suit with a velvet vest that was nearly to die for. Nearly did.

I can't say for certain, but I would have said peoples from all over the universe being "born" into giant dragon eggs was impossible a month ago.

Here's to absolutely hoping I am wrong.

I'm not sure that Childe has given you much consideration. She's a busy woman.

The skies, the seas, the winds -- I cannot help their excellent tastes.

What we are the the thessyx remains to be seen -- but that direction certainly feels on the table.

All the Adamant's survivors certainly deserve access to the information we have -- they've shared their resources and their labors after all.

[ Switch to private which he's now learned how to do. ]

Point taken. Your vigilance is appreciated. Anything in particular you think we should run damage control on? This seems more your element than mine.

[ His piracy and espionage is usually more relegated to letters and airships. ]

Point taken.

[ she hadn't considered expectations, really, because they hadn't voiced any. ]

Has anyone talked to the thessyx about what it means that we're 'chosen'?
We don't even know what their expectations are. Maybe they need our help.

Unfortunately, I didn't ask much about it. I would have liked to know the answer to the former, not that its time of death would go far in explaining how it hatched a bunch of humans.

If their culture has grown to worship it, I'd have to believe it's been around for some time. That's just a guess.
unfastens: (there'd be no point to us)

I'd go as far as saying that's still impossible by normal means.

It must have had some kind of ability.

Do we know if this thing was intelligent?

Bingo.
We may be revered for now, but the second we don't live up to what they expect of us, there'll be problems. False oracles or failed heroes of legend are seldom received well by the people who believed in them.

The next time they return, it'll be important for us to figure out more about their relationship to the Leviathan.

I thought they'd be armed at first, too. But they have some kind of psychic ability.
I met them in complete disguise, gave them an alias, and later took it off. They were instantly able to connect me to who they saw initially, and knew I had another name...

So, they have some kind of mind-reading ability. Something similar to it. Perhaps even some kind of offensive psychic power that we haven't yet seen.
Maybe they don't see the need for arming themselves, if they can see the intentions of everyone around them.

That, or they really are pacifists.

I really don't think we'll be that lucky. Even if they don't have some destiny already written for us, they could easily make one up.

More importantly, did you tell them more lies like that?

I sincerely hope you did, with fervent belief in your heart, so that they walked away with information as useless as the kind they saw fit to give us.

[Can you feel it, Varric? Her animosity.

Not towards him of course, he's charming. The Thessyx, not so much.
]

ah i fuckored my html up there

[But sir, gods in JRPGS as a trope though---

Can he blame her? There is rarely a mention of a god without some serious ramifications attached.

She's intrigued at his assessment, at any rate.
]

I suppose it is possible they're as surprised as we are, but I personally find it hard to believe when they're psychic creatures and we very much aren't.

It's way too easy for them to obfuscate information in a coordinated manner in that way, so I apologize to you and think you did well meeting them at the table, but I would hesitate to find any single bit of information they gave you to be remotely useful or true.

[The distrust here is so real.]

I'll take 'being a disappointment' over a lot of the other options. Don't think we'll get that lucky, though.

I'm honoured.

True. But it's also a hassle. I'm too lazy for this kind of life.
