It's so unmistakeable that those of you who have been around for awhile will likely recognize it as belonging to the yellow, box-shaped robot that is often seen getting in the way around camp and annoying everyone.

Those of you who are new? Well, you're about to find out exactly why he annoys everyone.]

Hellooooo, Hatchlings!

Everyone enjoying the power outage? I'm sure not! If my battery runs out and I don't have a way to recharge it, I will literally die! Maybe you should feel more grateful that you only have to deal with bumping into things and, I don't know, being cold? I imagine that's uncomfortable, but not as much as death.

Anyway!

I have it on good authority that the power will come back in forty-eight hours! Don't ask me how I know, just trust me! I am worthy of trust. This will prove to you that I'm worthy of trust!

So just, uh... hang tight? And don't freeze to death. Or starve? I have no idea how long you all can go without eating. Do you even need power to eat? What about "health food"? Isn't that normally just plants?

Okay, so! My advice is: don't freeze to death, stand still so you don't blindly bump into something and get a terrible injury (because no one can perform medical intervention in the dark), and if you're hungry, go eat some plants!

[The recording stops for a second, and then picks back up like he forgot to mention something.]

Oh, and: it's not very neighborly to give someone the wrong date and time for an important expedition. Not that I'm upset! [He still sounds cheerful? But in a maniacal way.] This is just a hypothetical situation that didn't happen to anyone!

Really.

comments

You may remember me from such greatest hits as 'that guy who tripped into the Chrysalis and brought us all here somehow' and, uh, 'that nervous dude who handed me a towel in the shower once' and you would be right, uh, that is, correct on both counts. I'm really sorry, by the way. For the... you know, the... thing. The first thing. Not the towels. Towels are great. I love towels.

Captain Childe asked me like a month ago to do some work with, uh, getting everyone in and settled and doing what we can to make you guys comfortable as much as we can actually help with. We know that you guys don't want to be here any more than we do. Ethyraia! Not exactly a fun time at Grandma's, right? Right.

Anyway, if you have any questions, or... you know, anything, or you just want to chat, come say hi. Introduce yourself? I know I'm kind of setting myself up to be the basecamp whipping boy over here but please don't yell at me I don't do well with that kind of attention.

Or you could just... I don't know, tell me something about yourself? We're still figuring each other out, right? Iiiiiiiiiii am a Scorpio, and I'm afraid of cats. N-not big cats. Lions are fine? I mean... like, normal housecats. So there you go, that's the fun fact of the week.

[ooc note: Tags on this post will be boomeranged when possible over the next 4-5 days, but no tags will be done after August 1st.]

comments

I haven't met that many of you since I've been mostly busy with the aid station, but I'm Lance.

I've done this whole 'waking up in another world' thing a few times now and in every one, there's been an issue of information getting lost. The more scattered our knowledge and experience is, the more difficult things are for everyone involved, and that includes the Adamant survivors who are kind of along for the ride in terms of whatever weirdness is surrounding us being here. So the more we know, the better for all of us.

It'd be helpful if we had access to the crew's information, but since we don't our best option is to collaborate and share what we do know with each other. Being as aware as we can of the situation will help us coordinate any future plans, and if we happen to find out something that the crew doesn't know themselves, record-keeping will help them too since they can access this network.

So far, I'm aware of public discussions about sharing things learned in conversations with the Thessyx, doing a headcount, and mapping the Adamant. We should probably also compile what we know about the animals and plants we've dealt with, things learned during scouting or exploration trips, and anything else we can think of that might be helpful.

However, I know from experience that keeping track of all this information can be kind of a big job, so if anyone is interested in handling organizing a portion of it, please feel free to say so. We'll just want to be sure that all the records are public and easily found by anyone looking for them.

comments

You, the viewer, are once again treated to a vision of... the Aid Station wall.

Nina: "Where's the camera again?"
John, her long-suffering patient who isn't suffering as much as he is laughing at her: "On the corner, there."
Nina: "But that means I have to hold my wrist like--" Abruptly, the picture changes and now Nina's squarely in view, "--oh yes, you're right. That's a better idea."
John: "...so are you gonna say something or?"
Nina: "Oh Saints, is it recording already? Blast--"

Bright smile is go! ]

Hello, everyone! If we haven't met yet, I'm Nina Zenik.

There are so many of us here from so many different places. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly two months, and now more of us are coming. I’m not used to making announcements like this [ some noise from beside her, Nina looks toward John and corrects: ] -- or, posts? Apparently they’re called posts. -- but even some the Adament crew I’ve spoken to are interested in my questions, so they’ve assured me they don’t mind if I - post - with this.

So tell us - what’s it like where you’re from? What are the legends that are most popular? What are the courtship practices? [ She’s absolutely not crafting this whole post because she’s searching for ideas on this, nope. ] Are you one of those of us have been fighting a war -- excuse the question if it’s rude, there just do seem to be a lot of us. I’d ask you to talk about your favorite foods instead, but that might be more depressing than helpful. Oh - here’s one: If you’re from an Earth, how do you know it’s a different Earth than all the other Earths? And if not, does your planet have a name or is mine the only one that doesn't?

comments

Captain Childe wanted to speak to their representatives, and you don't need me to tell you how important actually making friends with the original inhabitants of this place are, I'm sure.

I won't bore you with the little details - Balthier will just have to tell you himself whether or not he arm wrestled one of the thessyx - but let me tell you about the main points as I heard them from where I was.

[From where he was sitting at the actual table. Obviously implying he snuck in and therefore was not in this conversation is much more fun and importance-free.]

We got answers to some questions - the thessyx aren't shy about any of this, but if you're the shy sort, don't worry, I've got you.

First, as we all know, the shell was full of gifts for the "Children of the Leviathan". That seems to be us.

We, the Children of Leviathan, are the reason they finally came here. Their monarch sensed the psychic impression of the Children of the Leviathan hatching, and since the Children of the Leviathan are the chosen ones of the dragon, and they worship that dragon, they wanted to see us, the Children of the Leviathan, firsthand.

[The dramatic way he's saying Children of the Leviathan is not being expressed in voice-to-text, but it's fine. Repetition will have to do the work.]

Captain Childe wants to negotiate an alliance with the thessyx, and she's willing to let them have access to the basecamp to get it, with some restrictions. For example, no weapons.
But, it seems a lot like the thessyx's main interest with the basecamp isn't the crew, it's us. It'll be worth keeping that in mind in future, but right now, it means Her Captainship is offering to show the thessyx the set-up here, and it might mean they'll help us in return.

Balthier - human, voice like a thunderstorm seducing you, maybe you know him - mostly spoke for the hatchlings during the meeting. Don't worry, he was the perfect gentleman - and mostly steered the conversation back to Captain Childe to do the talking.
I think even without standing on a table and making an inspiring speech, sword held high in the air as a non-existence breeze ripples his shirt-sleeves as I know in my heart he's capable of, Balthier got us some goodwill with the woman in charge around here.

There wasn't exactly time for a Q&A back there, but if the thessyx told you something that's worth sharing, let us all know. If we can gather everything we have about them in one place, it'll help. I've got a few extras of my own as well.

[He has already hit Post before realising that Balthier's voice very definitely reminds him of a close friend...and if he ever told Fenris his voice sounded like a seductive thunderstorm, the broody elf would murder him.]

comments

If you're not used to them, they can be pretty uncomfortable, so here are some tips I've picked up while camping that've kept me from too many sleepless nights in the woods:

- Sit down when you get in instead of trying to climb in horizontally. This will make it easier to avoid tipping.

- Lay diagonally so that your knees don't hyperextend while you're on your back. After that you can shift up or down to where you're most comfortable, and should even be able to lay on your side.

- Not so useful right now, but if you're losing heat, add a layer of blanketing under the hammock with a few inches of slack hanging. You lose a lot more heat in a hammock than you do on a mattress due to the air flow, and this way you'll catch some of your own body heat to insulate yourself better.

- Try hanging the food end a little higher if you find yourself slipping.

- A pillow under your knees might help more than under your head if you're sleeping on your back.

I was going to offer to teach some kind of formal camping/survival course, but schedules here can change quickly and I'm a pretty terrible public speaker.
Instead, I'm just going to make an open-ended offer to just be willing to teach anyone what I can as you need it. If you weren't raised to live in the woods for weeks on end to hide from the secret genocidal organization your ancestors defected from, or you just weren't in any Scouting programs as a kid, let me know what I can help you with and I'll do my best.

comments

I know there's no Spotify here, no internet, not a lot of music, which sucks. My MP3 player came here with me, so I figured maybe some people might like to have at least a few options. It might not necessarily be to everyone's taste, but it's better than nothing (probably).

I've uploaded the contents to the database, you should be able to access it or send/receive songs at any time.

Turns out they already had some music on there too, so you can poke around theirs and see if you find something you like more. I haven't gotten to go through it all, but at least some of it looks like 21st century Earth stuff.

Sidenote: you're welcome to criticize the contents of my MP3 player, just know that I've never felt shame in my life & I can and will sing all of these karaoke style to your face. IDK if you really want to live through that experience.

( feel free to threadjack as you like )

comments
